 Got Quail? Want Quail?
If you have quail or if you actively manage for quail and other wildlife on your property or if you are interested in supporting the program, the 2008 Quail Unlimited/Budweiser Adopt-A-Covey program is for you. The program has several levels of participation, and supporters may choose to enroll at any level. Quail Unlimited and Budweiser want to recognize as many landowners as possible who are utilizing wildlife-friendly practices
on their properties.
ENROLLMENT IS FREE.
The first level of participation is as simple as completing an enrollment form and submitting it to Quail Unlimited. The form was developed by Quail Unlimited biologists to evaluate the extent of management on each property.
The form also serves as a reminder and an outline for landowners and managers for management practices that could be incorporated into their quail management plans. There is absolutely no cost to submit an application to document your habitat improvements. Landowners who complete and submit a habitat enrollment application will receive an attractive gate sign to display on their property and a habitat management booklet free. However, the deadline is May 31, 2008, and all landowners are encouraged to submit their forms as soon as possible.
The only requirement for receiving the gate sign and habitat booklet is to submit a completed enrollment form. In addition to being recognized as a good land steward with a sign and habitat booklet, entries will be evaluated and judged on a regional basis. Winners will be chosen based on the quality and quantity of management activities conducted on their property. Winners and all other cooperators will qualify for a hunting spot at the 2009 Chevrolet Quail Unlimited Celebrity Quail Hunt. Once again, there is no cost to participate in the program. Regional winners will be announced in a future issue of Quail Unlimited magazine and be listed on QU's web site.
On another level, and even if you don't manage land, you can help support the program.
First, if you have friends or associates who manage land, encourage them to participate by completing the enrollment form and submitting it to receive their free sign and habitat booklet. Secondly, for a $50 contribution, you can receive an Adopt-A- Covey gift kit, which includes a signed and numbered, limited edition print, a special Adopt-A-Covey decal, a lapel pin and a comprehensive wildlife habitat book. Furthermore, for each $50 contribution, you will receive a chance at winning a CZ-USA Woodcock 12-gauge, over/under shotgun with 28-inch barrels worth $1,200.
